Pain, redness and swelling of the tissue that lines our joints can often be attributed to some form of arthritis. This debilitating disease can take many forms, but the most common types are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Relief for Stiff Joints, Inflammation & Arthritis Pain
Although sometimes looked upon as a condition that affects older adults, arthritis can affect anyone at any age. Our internal medicine doctors at Addison Internal Medicine can provide a range of arthritis treatments to help patients who suffer from arthritis pain.
Types of Arthritis Pain
Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and progresses as we age. It tends to affect hands, knees and hip joints. In many cases the disease (inflammation of the joint tissue) is sparked by injury to the joint, such as a sports injury or impact from a fall or auto accident. The initial injury seems to heal, but arthritis develops in the affected joints years later.
Rheumatoid arthritis develops when your body’s defense system breaks down. Bones and joints, along with internal organs and systems may be affected, leaving you feeling achy, feverish, sick and tired.
Parts of the Body Affected by Arthritis:
Serious cases of arthritis that progressively worsen can become extremely debilitating. As the chronic disease worsens, mobility becomes limited.
